Keeping your vent hood clean is a critical part of kitchen fire prevention. The more grease buildup your vent hood has, the harder it will be for it to efficiently filter out odors, smoke and cooking residue. If left untreated, it can become a fire hazard and trap smoke in the space, resulting in damage to walls and cabinets.
Hood Safe LLC, you should have your vent hood cleaned every one to two months by an experienced and certified professional. They will clean your kitchen exhaust system down to the bare metal, which includes the vent hood, fan, baffle filters and ducts. This process will ensure your restaurant is safe for customers and employees, prevents a fire from starting in the ducts and keeps you compliant with NFPA 96 requirements.
The Hidden Dangers of a Dirty Vent Hood in Commercial Kitchens
Before the cleaning begins, it is important that you shut off the power to your vent hood. It is also important to remove any light bulbs from your vent hood and wipe down the inside edges. A good degreaser soap should be used to clean the exterior and any scrubbing brushes should be used with care to avoid damaging your range hood’s finish.
To start the hood cleaning process, the baffle filters are removed and soaked in a solution of hot water and a commercial kitchen cleaner. After soaking, the baffle filters are rinsed and then reinstalled into the vent hood. The ducts are scraped to loosen any hardened grease deposits and then washed and rinsed. The roof and hood are then rinsed and dried by hand with commercial grade hot water power washers.
